Large seascape with a steamship in the stormy North Sea was executed around 1870s and despite the lack of a signature, is fully authentically work by famous Austrian landscape and marine painter Albert Rieger (1834 Triest - 1905 Vienna). The son and pupil of painter Giuseppe Rieger. In 1838 settled he with the family in Vienna. His works were exhibited in many exhibitions in Munich and Paris. Crown prince Rudolf bought his landscapes "Am Traunsee" and "Gosausee". Rieger was awarded with Gold Austrian Medal and Great Golden Swedish-Norwegian Medal.

Inscription: unsigned, on the back of the stretcher inscribed with the artist´s name.
Technique: oil on canvas, framed.
Measurements: unframed w 40 3/4" x h 26 1/4" (103,5 x 66,5 cm), framed w 48 1/2" x h 35" (123 x 89 cm).
Condition: in good cleaned condition, a patch on the back of the canvas, signs of wear on the frame.
