Masterfully portrait of the favorite Shih Tzu dog was executed in 1886 by  American artist of French origin Leda Givernaud , on the back of the canvas  is the stamp of American canvas producer.

The Shih Tzu  is a toy dog or pet dog breed originating from Tibet and believed to be bred from the Pekingese and the Lhasa Apso. The Chinese have described their head shapes as "lion head". Shih Tzu are known for their cheeky and cheerful temperament. They are lively and friendly. Shih Tzu get along well with people of all ages, other dogs and other pets. It is rare to come across a snappy Shih Tzu - most of the time these dogs are extremely lovable.

Inscription: signed and dated 1886, old metall plaque with the name of the artist, mounted to the frame.

Technique: oil on canvas, original period gilt frame.

Measurements: unframed w. 18" x  h. 24"  (45,5 x 61 cm), framed 22 7/8" x 29"(58 x 73,5 cm)

Condition: painting is in the good condition, in the area of the pillow the canvas is slightly cracked.
