Landscape painting with ducks at the dam was executed in the end of 19th century and due to very close similarities was attributed to the hand of Austrian painter Maximilian Supantschitsch ( 1865 Vienna - 1953 Krems on the Danube). For comparison see few similar works by the same artist on our additional images.
Maximilian Suppantschitsch studied under Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels at the Vienna Academy and spent study trips in Austria-Hungary and Italy.
In 1897 he became a member of the Vienna Artists' Association. In 1900 he was a founding member of the Hagen Association. He was also a member of the Wachau Artists' Association.
In 1900 he took part in the Paris World Exhibition and received a "mention honorable".
After the First World War he withdrew more and more from the Viennese art scene. He now spent most of his time in Dürnstein, where he had his permanent residence from 1944 onwards.
He lived in the monastery in the summer and in the Richard Löwenherz inn in the winter, where he was taken in by the Thiery family.
