Ober-Tarvis ( in Italian Tarvisio , Slovenian: Trbiž) is a city with 4211 inhabitants in Italy in the northeastern part of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in the Italian-Austrian-Slovenian Borde triangle in the Canal Valley.
Thiis view of Tarvisio or in German Ober Tarvis was executed by Austrian landscape painter Joseph Altenkopf (1818 in Vienna - - after 1868 probably in Eisenstadt). As the son of a principal school principal, Altenkopf initially worked as a civil servant. However, this did not appeal to him, which is why he started a scientific career as a teacher, but also broke it off after a short time and devoted himself to art. He painted landscapes as oil paintings, for which he became known. He was also the director of a gallery in Esterházy. In 1850 he exhibited his most famous works at the Austrian art association.
