Austrian artist Karl Viktor Mayr, born 1882 in Vienna (died there in 1974), was a teacher of drawing by education. In May-June 1925 the artist first took part in the exhibition of the Artists Union in Vienna with three works, later to become a regular at major exhibitions and auctions in Vienna (important auction at Dorotheum on May 1929 presented his painting Biedermeier-Interior). The artist is listed in Heinrich Fuchs Austrian Artists Dictionary, Vienna 1977. The painting was executed in Batavia (the old name of Djakarta, the capital of Indonesia). Inscription: signed lower left. Technique: oil on canvas, luxuriousy antique Viennese gold-plated wood frame. Measurements: w 18 1/2" x h 27 1/4 " (47 x 64 cm), framed w 25 2/3 " x h 31 1/8" (65 x 79 cm) Condition: in very good condition, canvas was professional relined. |
