KPM quality hand-pained painting on German unmarked porcelain plate depicting ceremonial uniform portrait of German Herzog Maximilian(Max) von Württemberg (3 september 1828 in castle Taxis - 28 july 1888 in Regensburg, Germany). Back of plaque marked with pressed number and there is an old inscription in German: "Herzog Max von Wuerttemberg (Mann v.(von) T.(Tochter) Hermine." Due to the info from the genealogical survey of the peerage of Britain and the royal families of Europe (www.thepeerage.com) Maximilian Herzog von Württemberg was the son of Friedrich Paul Wilhelm Herzog von Württemberg and Maria Sophia Dorothea Prinzess von Thurn und Taxis. He married Hermine Prinzess von Schaumburg-Lippe, daughter of Adolf Georg Prince zu Schaumburg-Lippe and Hermine Prinzess zu Wadeck and Pyrmont, on 2 February 1876 at Bückeburg, Niedersachsen, Germany. He was also reported to have been married on 16 February 1876 at Regensburg, Germany. He died on 28 july 1888 in Regensburg. Maximilian Herzog von Württemberg gained the title of Herzog von Württemberg.
Inscription: on the reverse of plate pressed number and an old inscription in German: "Herzog Max von Wuerttemberg (Mann v.(von) T.(Tochter) Hermine".
Technique: oil on porcelain, lmounted in original period ormolu (gilt bronze) frame.
Measurements: each unframed 5 2/3 " x 7 1/8" (13,8 x 18 cm); framed w 5 5/8 " x h 7 1/2 " (14,3 x 18,5 cm).
