Moonlight landscape with a village by the river was executed in 1901 by Italian painter Gerolamo Cairati (1860-1948). Born in Trieste, Cairati studied architecture in Milan and moved to Munich in 1894, where he served as president of the Dante Alighieri Society for many years and created still lifes and Italian city views before applying himself to motifs of local scenery and architecture. - Traces of postmarks. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
