Portrait of a boy in a marine uniform was executed in 1901 by Austrian good listed female painters Emmi (Emilie) Paungarten (1874 - 1947).
She was born in Klagenfurt. Died in Graz. After college graduation, from 1894 she attended the Landscape Drawing School in Graz in Austria. In 1902 she continued her studies in Munich in the Union of Female Artists and then in Landenberger. In 1903-05 she worked for a few months at Knirr and Ažbe. She then undertook study trips to Venice, Padua and in 1911 to Paris, where she attended the Modern Academie with Othon Friesz and Quérin. That was probably during that period or her following other student travels which took her to Bulgaria, Romania and Constantinople. She then had her permanent residence in Graz, where she also worked as a teacher and was regularly exhibited at the art exhibition. In 1906 she received the silver medal of the city of Graz for the portrait of the painter E. Singer. Paungarten was especially busy as a portraitist and highly esteemed as a member of the Stmk artists cooperative.
