Sunset landscape with grouses was executed 1913 by German-Austrian painter and graphic artist Georg Eduard Gehbe (1845 Meiningen - 1920 Salzburg).

Gehbe became known for his hunting and genre paintings, compositions from fairy tales, landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His style was described as "late Gründerzeit realism". However, his hunting pictures with the often recurring courtship motif of grouse earned him a somewhat pejorative reputation as a superficial veteran.

Some of his works can be seen in the Salzburg Museum or in the local history museum in Golling, but are also sold on the open market.

From 1861 Gebe studied with Friedrich Preller d. Ä. in Weimar. After stays in Berlin, Paris and Switzerland, he became a student of Albert Zimmermann and Hans Canon in Vienna from 1870 to 1872. After a stay in Hungary he returned to Vienna. In 1884 he settled in Salzburg and in 1886 he moved into a workshop in the newly built artists´ house. Here he became a leading figure in the conservative artistic community.

From 1886 he took part almost every year in the exhibitions of the Salzburg Artists´ Association and in exhibitions of the artists´ associations in Vienna, Munich and Berlin.

The esteem in which he was shown is also reflected in the silver laurel wreath of the gold and silversmith Franz Holter, which Gehbe was presented with on his 55th birthday in the Hotel zum Goldenes Schiff. The names of 56 friends and admirers of the artist from Salzburg´s high society are engraved on the 37 petals of the wreath, including the painter Theodor Streicher, the painter and local politician Josef Meiburger, who was important for Salzburg, the writer Anton Breitner, the sculptor Anton Aicher, the History painter and portrait painter Leo Reiffenstein, the president of the Salzburg Art Association Ludwig Schmederer or the architect and city planning director Franz Drobny.
