Our painting purchased from the property of Royal House of Hanover ( important auction of Sotheby´s in Castle Marienburg "Works of Art from the Royal House of Hanover", 5 - 15 October 2005, Lot 1845) and depicts view of Konigsee and Watzmann with travellers in the boats.
This high-romantical work hung a long time in the Province Museum of Hanover (on the stretsher - original label of Fideikommiss-gallery in 1905 , inventory of Museum in Hanover). The work created by two well-known german artists: lake landscape with view of Watzman - by August Becker ( 1822 Darmstadt - 1887 Duesseldorf) and figures in the boats - by Adolf Scmitz-Crolenborgh (1825 Darmstadt - 1894 Duesseldorf).
* August Becker - german landscape painter , since 1840 studied at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf by Schirmer.Since 1844 travelled in Tirol, Bavaria, Switzerland and with offer of Queen Victoria to Scotland, where he lived and worked as teacher by princesses and created a seria of paintings for quenn´s casltle Balmoral.Becker was romantic artist with great love to mountains landscapes .His works situated in the renown noble collections in Germany and England and in Museums: Walraff-Museum in Cologne and Province Museum in Hanover (8 landscapes, including our painting(inventory in 1905)).
*Adolf Scmitz-Crolenborgh - painter and illustrator , studied by E.Rauch, lthan at the academy in Duesseldorf by K.Sohn , worked since 1846 - in Antwerpen , since 1851 - in Frankfurt a. M. and later in Duessseldorf.
Inscription: signed lower right."Adolf Schmitz und Adolf Becker", original metal plaque on the frame with name of artist and original title of painting, reverse - a lot of labels: of Fideikommiss-gallery (Inventory of Hanover museum from 1905); Sotheby´s auction and inventory label of Royal Castle in Marienburg.
