Experts of famous Munich auction house Neumeister, where we purchased this work, atteibuted it to the hand of renowned Austrian Classicism landscape painter Johann Nepomuk Schoedlberger (1779 - 1853). The artist spent the years 1817/18 in Italy. Friend of Anton Petters, he was influenced by Claude Lorrain and Poussin. In 1821 the artist made a large painting "Traunfall bei Gmunden" for Franz I of Austria. Also Ludwig I of Bavaria and the Grand Duke of Weimar were patrons that supported his talent. From 1835 on he was a member of Vienna Academy. His paintings are represented in various museums of Austria.
