”Surf”, this seascape painting was executed Russian and Soviet painter, graphic artist and architect by Vladimir Mikhailovich Vladimirov (July 6 (18), 1886, Kurilovo, Pokrovsky district, Vladimir province - November 13, 1969, Moscow).
In 1901-1907, V. M. Vladimirov studied at the Stroganov School; among his teachers were N. A. Sergeev, N. A. Andreev, S. A. Vinogradov, D. A. Shcherbinovsky. He graduated from the school with the title of "scientist draftsman" in the sculpture class.
Having passed the external exams for the certificate of maturity at the 2nd Cadet Corps, he went to St. Petersburg to continue his education. In 1908-1917 he studied at the architectural department of the Institute of Civil Engineers. In the early 1920s, while working as an architect, V. M. Vladimirov studied painting at VKHUTEMAS under I. I. Mashkov, A. V. Kuprin, R. R. Falk, and later became a prominent artist. He is the author of landscapes of the Russian North, Crimea and the Caucasus, a series of watercolors with views of the palace and park ensembles of Bakhchisarai, Kuskovo, Ostankino, still lifes, and portraits. According to art critic V. S. Manin, Vladimirov's creative style is close to that of the Fauvists and members of the "Jack of Diamonds". Manin characterizes Vladimirov as "an artist of rare coloristic gift and sense of color, who painted bright, emotionally charged works." Works by V. M. Vladimirov are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of the History of Moscow, the Shchusev Museum of Architecture, the Museum of Private Collections at the Moscow City Archives (fund 213), the gallery of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve, the Bakhchisarai Museum in Crimea, the Penza City Museum, the Savitsky Museum in Nukus (Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan), private collections in Russia, France, the USA, Germany, Finland, England and others.
