Still life with cherries, peppers and eggplants was executed by Spanish painter Joaquin Asensio Mariné (Barcelona, 1890-1961). He was specialised in landscapes, figures and still lifes in the style of Post-Impressionism. He held a series of personal and collective exhibitions in different places of Spain and Latin America, which encountered a great success. He was a self-taught artist who filled with colours and intense feelings his compositions at the same time that he survived with dignity selling ties in a small shop. Asensio Marine mainly stood out as a landscape painter. He was able to capture the essence of places in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands where the light suggested a myriad of feeling. He was able to capture the essence of a landscape with only a few brush strokes.
