Painting with a brushwood collector in the summer forest was executed by Franz Josef Georg Illem (1865 in Pilsen, Kingdom of Bohemia, Austrian Empire - 1912 in Vienna). He was an Austrian portrait, landscape and marine painter of the Düsseldorf School.
Illem studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1881/1882. His teachers there were Heinrich Lauenstein and Peter Janssen the Elder. He settled in Vienna as a painter. Illem created portraits, later also landscapes and marines with figurative staffage.
