The very nicely framed landscape of the end of 18th/beginning of 19th century with cows grazing at the lake and ruins in the background executed by famous Austrian landscape and animal painter Martin von Molitor (1759 - Vienna - 1812). He studied under Johann Christian Brand. From 1784 Molitor was a member of the Vienna Academy and worked mainly in gouache and watercolour. The artist is listed in: Prof.H.Fuchs, Austrian Painters of the 19th Century, Vienna, 1973.
Inscription: signed with initial M, lower left. On the reverse inscribed Martin von Molitor (1759-1812).
