Portrait of a gentleman was executed by German female painter, miniaturist and draftsman Augusta von Buttlar (1796 Dresden - 1857 Florence). 

Granddaughter of the poet Johann Adolf Schlegel, niece of the poets August Wilhelm and Friedrich Schlegel, 
whom B. portrayed. First edition from 1810 with Friedrich Matthäi in Dresden. Between 1818 and 1846 stays in Frankfurt am Main,
Munich, Paris (1822 studies with François Gérard), London, Vienna, Dresden, Florence, Rome and Bonn. Based in Brixen from 1848.
– Painted, apart from copies, mainly portraits. (Aqu.; oil) in the style of the Romantics and religious influenced by the Nazarenes.
