Our painting depicts races at the racecourse Kreau in Vienna Prater park. Austrian painter Carl Kaiser-Herbst was born in 1858 in Vienna (died there in 1940). First studied to become an architect, the artist first studied painting at the Vienna Academy under Griepenkerl and then at the Munich Academy under Gysis and Wenglein. In the period of 1890-1894 the artist was travelling in the Alps, Dalmatia, Korfu and England. He exhibited his first landscape in Paris in 1892, then followed London and Glasgow (the artist lived in England in 1905-1909). Later he returned to Austria to paint landscapes in Burgenland.
