Masterfully study of two dogs was executed around 1850s in very close manner of German animale painter Benno Rafael Adam (1812 Munich - 1892 Kelheim). He was a German animal painter. Benno Adam is one of the Chiemsee painters.

Benno Adam received his training from his father as the eldest son of the Munich painter Albrecht Adam. In 1828 he accompanied his father to Mecklenburg to do lithography. In 1832 he worked with his father in Scharnhausen. In the 1830s he first exhibited at the Munich Art Association, of which he later became a member. During this time, a specialization in animal pieces began.

In the summer of 1834 he married Josepha Quaglio, eldest daughter of the architectural painter Domenico Quaglio. Her son Emil Adam also became a painter. Benno Adam's brothers are the painters Franz, Eugen and Julius Adam.

He was particularly distinguished by his depiction of huntable animals and hunting dogs in compositions rich in figures (deer hunting, fox hunting, sow hunting, halali) and domestic animals.

In 1846, Reise traveled to Prague, where he moved into a studio in the Prague Academy. In 1848/49 Adam worked with his brothers on lithographs for the memories of the campaigns of the K. K. Österr. Army in 1848/49. In 1866 he took part in the World Exhibition with dog pictures.

In 1886 Adam moved to Kelheim with his daughter Sophie, where he died in 1892.
