Mythological painting with Venus and Amor was executed in 18th/19th centuries and was attributed to the hand of German portrait and allegorical painter Johann Ernst Heinsius (1740 - 1812 Erfurth) . For comparison see image of similar work by him from Dorotheum sale on 1704.2013.
His brother, Johann Julius Heinsius, also became a painter and emigrated to France. Their styles are similar and they are often confused.
Inscription: unsigned, on the back is collector's label with dates of the artist.
Technique: oil on canvas, antique "Ochsenzungen” Gold-plated frame.
Measurements: unframed w 10 1/4” x h 7 1/2” (26,5 x 19 cm); framed w 15”x h 12 1/4” (38 x 31 cm).
