This masterfully  animalistic painting with monkey family was executed by famous German painter and graphic artist Paul Friedrich Meyerheim ( 1842  - Berlin – 1915). 

At the beginning of his artistic career, Paul Meyerheim went to Paris and Barbizon several times to perfect his landscape painting. His special talent lay in depicting animals. He also made a name for himself as a portraitist and was successful as an illustrator with his woodcuts and lithographs.

Meyerheim (together with his brother) received his first artistic lessons from his father. From 1857 to 1860, Meyerheim attended the art academy in his hometown. There he also visited the studio of the animal painter Teutwart Schmitson, whose painting influenced him greatly. Later he undertook several study trips to Switzerland, Belgium and Holland and stayed in Paris for a year. He then returned to Berlin, where as early as 1883 he headed the animal painting class at the Berlin Art Academy. In early 1883, Meyerheim was also appointed professor[1] and in 1900 he became a member of the Senate of the Academy of Arts.
