Masterfully Neoclassicism portrait of a young gentleman was executed around 1800s - 1810s and due to the very close manner, motive and time of creation was attributed to the hand of French portrait painter Louis-Leopold Boilly (1761 La Bassée - 1845 Paris). Also the small size (14 x 18,5 cm) and oval format are typical for the artist. For comparison with other small portraits by Boilly see our additional photos.
A number of his paintings vividly document the French middle-class social life of his time.
Boilly was also well respected for his portraiture, producing many portraits of the middle classes and other famous contemporaries.
