This historical portrait of the famous Ukrainian haydamak-centurion Ivan Gonta from the Uman ( in Ukrainian haydamak-sotnik) from the times of Koliivschchina was executed by unknown Ukrainian painter in 1900s, based on the painting by Sergij Wasilkivskij ( 1854 - 1917) of the same name.
The Koliivshchina uprising ( in Ukrainian Коліївщина) in 1768 was the last Hajdamak uprising. The uprising of the Hajdamaks, a group of Ukrainian peasants and Cossacks in right-bank Ukraine, was directed against the Polish feudal rule of the Szlachta in the Bracław Voivodeship and was a reaction to the Confederation of Bar. The anti-Catholic propaganda emanating from the Orthodox monasteries in the region was one another factor in the spread of the uprising.Fully history of Koliivshchina read in wikipedia under following link in Ukrainian:
