Winter genre scene in a Rusdian village was executed c. in 1850 by listed German genre and horse painter Herman (Anton Hermann) Kowalski (Kowalsky). He was (born 1813 in Dresden and since 1825 he studied at the Art Academy, in 1838 he worked in Munich, later in Vienna. His popular motives were Russian folk genre scenes. Because he was Polish origin, he signed his works with " Kowalski" instead " Kowalsky".
Two watercolours with Russian scenes by him ( signed Kowalski) are also in our possession ( see item No.738 and 3400). His paintings are in different German museums, including Dresden Gallery.
