A part of the group of 4 lithographs ( for other see item numbers 4703, 4704 and 4705 from the "Turf" portfolio, lithograph in colour on thin cardboard, c. 1909, signed in the stone Ludwig Hohlwein.

Ludwig Hohlwein (1874 in Wiesbaden – 1949 in Berchtesgaden) was prominent German poster artist -Modernist in the time ca. 1900-1910. He was trained and practiced as an architect until 1906, when he switched to poster design. Hohlwein´s adaptations of photographic images was based on a deep and intuitive understanding of graphical principles. His creative use of color and architectural compositions dispels any suggestion that he uses photos as a substitute for creative design.
