Genre street scene in a Galician town (probably in its capital Lemberg /now Lviv) from the time of Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy, it depicts figures of Polish residents in front of a tavern or a state building. On the shield of building there is designation "F.Swada" and on the right window - Austrian double eagle state coat of arms. This painting was executed in 1876 by important Polish painter Frantciszek (Franz) Streit (1839 in Brody, Galicia - 1890 Munich).

Franz Streitt graduated from the secondary school in Lviv in 1854 and studied at the local Technical University. From 1856 to 1866 he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow with The University of Applied Sciences, with the university of art, with The University of Applied Sciences, and jan suszczkiewicz and Jan Matejko, and then from 1867 to 1871 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Eduard von Engerth. After his studies he stayed in Krakow and painted historical pictures from the history of the Kingdom of Poland, following the example of his master Jan Matejko. In 1871 he moved to Munich, where he founded a joint studio with Antoni Kozakiewicz and became a member of the Polish artist group with, among others, Jozef Brandt and Alfred von Wierusz-Kowalski and of the Munich Artist Union. He undertook study trips to Galicia and Hungary. In Munich, he devoted himself mainly to genre painting from the life of Galician peasants and gypsies. His works came in the art collections in Germany, Austria, Poland, but also in Great Britain and the United States. Some paintings appeared in 1882 and 1886 in the Leipzig "Gartenlaube".
