This great panoramic view of Venice was created ca. in 1890s and due to the full identical style, composition and time of creation was attributed to well renowed Austrian landscape and architecture painter Karl Kaufmann (1843-1905). He studied at Vienna Academy and was active in Vienna in the 1900s. His Venice , Rome and oriental cityscapes brought him the world glory . Our painting was signed by the artist with pseudonym "A.Conti". This name is one of numerous pseudonyms adopted by artist Karl Kaufmann to circumvent the exclusionary contracts, which many 19th c. art dealers and galleries compelled their artists to sign. It was not unusual for popular artists to have contracts at various galleries under different names; this enabled them to offer their works in different venues without breaking any legally binding contractual agreements. They were thus afforded the opportunity for more sales.
