Small but very fine gouache on lithographic base by prominent Russian cityscape painter and lithographer Carl (Charles) Petrovitch Beggrov (1779 - 1875) after gouache his contamporary Alexander Orlovsky (1772 - 1832). This work depicts kibitka rushing past a police post n the Newsky Prospect in St.Petersburg. It was created ca. in 1810s , on the antique label under the image is inscription in French: " illumine chez Ch(arle)s Beggrow?Persp.de Newsky maison l´eglise de St. Pierre quart. No.43".

Carl Petrovich Beggrow (1799, Riga - 1875, St Petersburg), lithogrpher, watercolourist, painter. Studied under Maxim Vorobyov at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1818-21). Worked as a lithographer at the Central Board of Communications (from 1825). Nominated to the Imperial Academy of Arts (1831), academician of perspective painting (1832). Worked on commissions for the Society for the Encouragement of Artists (1820s-early 1830s), contributed to the series Views of St Petersburg and Envimns.

Aleksander Or³owsky (1777 iWarsaw, Poland - 1832 in Saint Petersburg) was a Polish painter who worked since 1802 in St. Petersburg. He dealt painterly with landscape painting and themes of Polish and Russian life, focusing on equestrian and horse portrayals.

Inscription: antique label under the image in French with the artist´s name and the title..

Technique: gouache on lithigraphic base / on paper. Matted and in the original period fire-gilded frame.

Measurements: image w 3 5/8" x h 2 3/8" (9 x 6,3 cm), matted and framed w 8 1/4" x h 7 1/2" (21 x 19 cm).

Condition: in very good condition.
