A pair of masterfully marine paintings was executed in the late 18th century ( one of two signed and dated 1796) by high listed British marine painter Robert Wilkins ( 1740 - after 1799). Both paintings have original titles: „ Shipping off the Coast" and „ The Smuggler‘s Cove". The artist worked in London, exhibited his marine works from 1765 to 1782 ( sailing ships, ship fires and others). Represanted in different international and English lexicons.

Inscription: one of two signed and dated : „f (fecit) Wilkins 1796”; on the back of each there are two antique labels: first with the name of the artist and original title ; the second is antique label of a materials and frame producer in London. The name of the artist was printed with a typos: instead " f. (fecit ) Wilkins “with mystake „ I.Wilkins“.

Technique: each oil on wood. Antique gilt frames.

Measurements: each oval image unframed w 10 3/4" x h 13" (27,3 x 33 cm), matted and framed w 18 3/4" x 15 3/4" (47,5 x 40 cm).

Condition: in very good condition.
