This Jewish painting was executed in 1930s by Jewish painter Samuel (Sandor) Beregi (1876 Munkacs, now Mukatschewo/Ukraine - 1943 died in a concentration camp). Because the author of this work was born in Munkacs , in these time the center of Hassidic Jews under grounder of this religious sect Grand Rebbe Shlomo Spira, and due to the physiognomie similarity of this portrait to famous images of Slomo Spira, we can assume that the painting depicts this famous rabbi. Beregi, Sándor (Alexander; Welber, Sámuel) - painter in the Carpathian-Ukraine, lived in Munkacs (in 1919-1938 Czechslovakia, now Ukraine), then in Kosice and after 1922 in Uzhgorod. According to the alleged information was killed by the Nazis in the concentration camp.
