Extremely rare miniature on ivory depicts the Russian Tsar Peter the Great ( 1672 - 1725), it was executed in the first quarter of 18th century by a represantative of Dutch School from the circle of Carel de Moor ( 1656 - 1728), important Dutch genre and portrait artist, who under other was famous for his portraits of Peter the Great. In the State History Museum, Moscow is a 18th century engraving also depicted Peter the Great, which was executed after a portrait by Carel de Moor in 1717 and have stilistic similarities with our composition.The whole painting consists of two parts: the portrait of Peter the Great was executed in an oval (gouache on ivory) and is inserted into the environment of various symbols of power and greatness of the Tsar, also painted by the artist´s hand in gouache on ivory or parchment that is glued to the thin wooden panel.
