Museum quality genre painting with circus animals was executed in 1869 by good listed Belgian animalist Vincent de Vos (1829 - 1875). The artist, born in Courtrai/Belgium, studied by Eduard Woutermaertens. He painted mostly dogs, in a style similar to that of Joseph Stevens, but with a trade drier, more meticulous. Works by him situated in museums of Mulhouse and Tourcoing.
