Biedermeier portrait watercolour of a noble child, dated 1844 , by Austrian genre and historical painter Eduard Ender (1822 Rome - 1883 London). Eduard Ender was son of portrait painter Johann Ender and nephew of landscape artist Thomas Ender. The artist studied by his father, later at the Viennese Academy and finally studied in Paris. Ender is noted alike for his historical and genre works, which he exhibited since 1844 in Vienna and Germany, among others are "Francis I in the Studio of Cellini"; "Shakespeare Reading Macbeth before the Court of Elizabeth"; "La Corbeille de Mariage"; and "A Game of Chess".
