Idyllic religious painting : St.Maria with Jesus, John Baptist and his mother St.Elisabeth , Maria´s cousine. Painting created in 1840-s by renown French painter of portraits , religion and genre subjects Josephine Calamatta ( 1817 -Paris - 1893). She was pupil and engraver of Ingres. First teacher of Josephine was her husband, famous French etcher Luigi Calamatta. It followed then the study by Hippolyte Flandrin and debut in the Salon de Paris in 1875. To the end of her life, she entered in religion. In portraits she had very influence by Ingres, whom she admired so much. In religion painitngs she gives an intonation Symbolist´s, and an almost aggressive colour, evoquant the art of the Italian Renaissance and certain works of Murillo.
