Biedermeier watercolour depicts two charming children (brothers) on catching of singbirds. It was executed in 1840 by well-known Austrian portrait watercolor artist , miniaturist and lithographer Johann Baptist Clarot ( 1798 Vienna - 1855 Budapest). He was the son of engraver Joseph Clarot and brother of another well-known Viennese portrait and miniature painter Alexander Clarot (1796 -1842). On our watercolour the artist left his memory inscription : "Meinem Bruder Alexander gewidmet" ( in English: " dedicated to my brother Alexander"). From this inscription, it can be assumed that the author painted this watercolor in 1840 in memory of distant childhood years and depicted himself and his older brother Alexander, who was 2 years older than the author.

In 1814-1824 Johann Baptist Clarot studied at the Viennese Fine Arts Academy. After study he worked for different publishing houses in Vienna. In 1841 he settled in Pest (now Budapest), where he lived until his death.
