This modernist portrait of a young beauty holding a pearl necklace was executed ca. in 1910s-1920s by renowed Russian-American painter Nikolaj Vasilievich Kharitonov /Haritonov (1880 by Yaroslavl - 1944 New York).

Nikolaj Haritonov was born 1880 in Yaroslavl province. For a time he lived in St. Petersburg. Around 1895 went to Valaam, he became a novice in the monastery, he created two icons for two years l. He returned to St. Petersburg, attended the School of Drawing OPH and private studio of L. Dmitriev -Kavcazsky. In 1901, he joined a volunteer at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, from 1902 he studied at the studio of Ilya Repin. In 1909 he received the title of artist. He worked in St. Petersburg. He painted portraits and genre scenes, landscapes of the Russian North Caucasus, still lifes , executed portraits of the royal family. Participated in the spring exhibition in the halls of the Academy of Arts and the 44th exhibition TPHV (1916). Received awards by competition. A. Kuindzhi for the picture "Nanny" (acquired by the Museum of Arts) and "The Lady in Black" (acquired by the Leipzig Museum at the International Exhibition in Munich), 1st prize OPH on genre painting, and a commemorative prize. Princess Eugenie of Oldenburg. He was a member of A. Kuindzhi Community of artists and of the Yaroslavl Art Society . In 1912 he traveled to Europe, he worked in Paris, studied at the Munich Academy of Arts. In 1919 he immigrated to the Kingdom of CXC (Serbs, Croats and Slovenes). Designed productions at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. From 1923 he lived in New York, took American citizenship. He worked as a portraitist. Presented in the State Russian Museum, the State Central Theatre Museum of Bakhrushin etc.

Модернистский портрет девушки, задумчиво рассматривающей жемчужную нитку. Картина написана примерно в конце 1910-х - 1920-х годах известным русско-американским художником Николаем Васильевичем Харитоновым (1880 Ярославская губерния – 1944 Нью-Йорк). Русский живописец. Родился в Ярославской губернии. Некоторое время жил в Петербурге. Около 1895 уехал на Валаам, стал послушником в монастыре, два года писал иконы. Вернулся в Петербург, посещал Рисовальную школу ОПХ и частную мастерскую Л. Дмитриева-Кавказского. В 1901 поступил вольнослушателем в Петербургскую АХ, с 1902 учился в мастерской И. Репина. Куинджи за картины «Няня» (приобретена музеем АХ) и «Дама в чёрном» (приобретена Лейпцигским музеем на Международной выставке в Мюнхене), 1-ю премию ОПХ по жанровой живописи и юбилейную премию им. принцессы Евгении Ольденбургской. Входил в О-во им. А. Куинджи, Общину художников и Ярославское художественное о-во. В 1912 путешествовал по Европе, работал в Париже, занимался в Мюнхенской АХ. В 1919 эмигрировал в Королевство СХС (Сербов, Хорватов и Словенцев). Оформлял спектакли в Хорватском народном театре в Загребе. С 1923 жил в Нью-Йорке, принял американское гражданство. Работал как портретист. Представлен в ГРМ, Государственном центральном театральном музее им. А. Бахрушина и др.
