Portrait miniature on ivory was created in the end of 19th century after miniature by famous French miniaturist Jean Baptist isabey (1767-1855). It depicts Josefine Beauharnais (1763 - 1814), the first wife of Napoleon Bonapart (marriage in 1796) , and thus the first Empress of The French. Very similar miniature can be find in the Getty Museum, USA.
Inscription: illegibly signature remains lower left.
Technique: gouache on ivory. Luxuriousy original period fire-gilded bronze frame.
Measurements: unframed w 1 5/8" x h 2 5/8" (4 x 6,5 cm ) , framed w 3" x h 4 3/8" ( 7,5 x 11 cm ).
