Russian genre work was created by famous French painter and etcher Michel Francois Damame-Demartrais (1763 - Paris - 1827) together with etcher L? Ph.Debucourt (1755 - Paris - 1832) as a part of the seria " Collection compl. des diff. Genres de voitures russes" of 8 aquatints of Russian wagons after original drawings by Damame-Demartrais from his travel to Russia (Moscow and St.Petersburg) in 1796-1805. The seria was published in Paris in 1806. On our additional images you can find three aqutints from this seria including one fully identical to our .
Michel Francois Damame-Demartrais was a very renowed Parisian painter and etcher of the turn of the 19th century. From 1796 till 1805 he lived in Moscow and St.Petersburg, where he studied the customs and traditions of the Russian people. Several his paintings, watercolours, drawings and etchings, which depict folk live and views of Russian cities, now situate in the Heremitage of St.Petersburg, at the Russian Museum and other public collections.
