This extremely fine portrait was created in 1847 by one of most famous Austrian portrait painters of the Biedermeier Epoch Franz Schrotzberg ( 1811 Vienna -1889 Graz) and depicts Russian Princess Julia Luise Trofimovna Golitsyn (1810 Revel - 1887 Moscow).

Princess Julia Luise Golitsyn, born Baranov (1810 Reval - 1887 Moscow) was the dauther of Trofim Baranov and Julia Dorothea Baranov-Adlerberg, she married Prince Mikhail Golitsyn (1800-1873) in St.Petersburg in 1832. She recieved the title of Countess in 1846, had 6 children with him (two died at the early age). She was the owner of the famous salon, where on certain days were all shiny nobilities of Moscow.

Our portrait was found in a private German collection and has never been reported in the art sources. But it´s known another portrait depicted the Princess Golicyn, painted by Hungarian artist Sandor Kozina in the year 1840, i.e., 7 years ahead of our portrait and a comparison with which gives us the full evidence that both portraits depict the same person. Portrait of Princess Golicyn (also portrait of her husband Mikhail Golicyn) by Sandor Kozina situate now in the State Historical Museum in Moscow (see our additional images from the exhibition cataloque "Prunkvolles Zarenreich" (exhibition of the Museum of Applied Arts , Cologne, 1997).
