Exhibitions and Prices: in1907 Great Golden State-Med., Vienna. -D. is considered "most powerful artistic talent" of the island of Sylt and the most important after Andreas Achenbach marine painter of the Düsseldorf school around 1900. D. found his motives (deep sea, coastal and island Lsch.) especially when driving on the North Sea (Schleswig-Holstein. West Coast, North frieze. Islands and Halligen). He painted old fishing ports and harbour scenes. Except for oils, watercolours and sketch books and independent drawings (pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink). Marked by the plein-air painting of his teacher Theodor Hagen, D. initially painted with broken heavy dark-toned colors. As Impressionist, D. used later increasingly lighter colors that he sometimes wore on with brush and scraper, sometimes directly from the tube in valeurreicher increments. Virtuoso dramatization and tekton. The mostly blue-grey or beige-tone tuned label image order and through strong rötl. Local colors accentuated seascapes. The sketchy style reminiscent of Giovanni Segantini. The contemporary impressed as compared to the wilhelmin. Marine painting artists. Ambition and original power of his images. The excessive demand of the art market in the late work of to experienced and steady production sedicted D. without motive.
