Fine early 19th century miniature on ivory depicts a beautiful bather in a grotto by sea . Despite the high quality miniature and a signature "Daffinger" we did not find similar motifs and any evidence to attributed it to the hand of famous Austrian miniature artist Moritz Daffinger (1790-1849). In our opinion this miniature executed by a representative of the Italian Romantic school .

Inscription: signed "Daffinger" vertical in the middle.

Technique: gouache on ivory. Original period gold-plated wood frame.

Measurements: each unframed w 3 3/4" x h 4 5/8" (9,5 x 11,5 cm); framed w 5 1/4" x 6 1/8" (13,3 x 15,5 cm ).

Condition: in very good condition.
