Rare early oil study of Brazilian orchid was executed in 1871 by the represantative of Portugiese/Brazilian school, signed J.R. Carvalho and dated in Portugiese "February 1871". Brasilian Orchid (in Latin: Oncidium Harrisonium) was found in Rio De Janiero in 1830s ( see in on-line: http://www.orchidspecies.com/oncharrisonianum.htm).
Inscription: signed and dated in Portuguese lower right: "J.R.Carvalho fec.(in english: painted by), February 1871".
Technique: oil on paper, laid down on cardboard, unframed.
Measurements: w 10 5/8" x h 17 1/8" (27 x 43,5 cm), with cardboard folder w 11 3/4" x h 17 1/8" (30 x 43,5 cm)
