According to the original inscription on the reverse , the style and manner of painting this pastel on parchment is authentical work by famous German portrait and genre painter Johann Lorenz Kreul (1765-1840). He studied at the Art School of Nurnberg and later under the tutelage of court painter in Ansbach Fr.Naumann. Kreul undertook study travels all over Germany and worked as a court painter in Stuttgart and in Bavaria. The artist is famous for his portraits of German nobility in oil and pastel.
Inscriptions: unsigned, label on the backside of the original cover with the inscription and attributtion in German : "Pastell auf Pegament, darstellend Bayrische Prinzess, von Johann lorenz Kreul, Maler, geboren 1765 im Erlach/Bayern, gestorben 1840 im Nürnberg". (see photo).
