1895 ENGLISH SCHOOL WATERCOLOR PAINTING by British painter Alfred Augustus Glendening jun. (1861 - 1907), it depicts beautiful little girl gathering field flowers on a meadow . The entire painting is in warm soft colors. The painting is signed "1895 AG" with a long line from the G. This monogram is the way Alfred Augustus Glendening Jr 1861 to 1907 signed his watercolors. He is known for his watercolors of pretty girls and women and have international high results (for comparison high estimated other watercolours by the same artist). The artist lived in London, he is son of Alfred Augustus Glendening Senior, also a painter. The artist was taught by his father and he worked in oils and watercolours. The work of father and son often bears a striking resemblance. Alfred Junior exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1881 to 1904 and also at Suffolk Street. His picture “Haymaking” was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1898 and was bought by the Chantry Bequest for the nation in 1898. Glendening Junior enjoyed a great deal of popularity in his time, mainly because he knew what the public liked and composed his paintings accordingly.Later in his career, Glendening Junior also became a theatrical scenery painter, as so many of the Victorian artists did to give them a regular income and some sort of security while allowing them to carry on with their painting.
