Snowly forest landscape with a frozen brook was executed in 1887 by Emil Heinrich (Henri) Gogarten ( 1850 in Linz on Rhein- 1911 Munich). He was German landscape painter and represantative of Symbolism. Gogarten studied at the Art Academy in Duesseldorf by Oswald Achenbach and with his support from 1874 to 1877 in Paris. Then he returned to Germany and lived from 1878 to 1889 in Hamburg.In the summer of that year, Gogarten had settled in Munich and could soon join the artists´ colony in Dachau. In addition to exhibitions at the Art Academy was able to issue Gogarten in Munich Glass Palace (Glaspalast).
