Great lake landscape with travellers in boats, visiting famous Wilhelm Tell´s chapel, situated on the shore of lake Lucern in Switzerland. The Wilhelm Tell´s chapel was built in 1879 and marks the site where , according to legend, Wilhelm Tell , the folk hero of Switzerland (late15th century Swiss chronicle ), during a storm leapt from the boat of his captors (the Tellensprung "leap of Tell") and escaped, allowing him to assassinate the tyrant Gessler and initiate the rebellion that led to the foundation of the Old Swiss Confederacy.

The author of our painting is German landscape painter Josef Schoyerer (1844 Berching/Oberpfalz - 1923 Munich). He studied by C.Millner and worked in Munich. Motives for his paintings he took of the travel to Alpine regions in Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland. In the important German lexicon "List of paintings of 19th century" represanted 3 paintings by Josef Schoyerer titled" Lake Lucern", List No.2 and List No. 24.1 -24,2. All three works were exhibited at the famous exhibitions in Dresden (1879) and in Berlin (1898). The last one with similar dimensions to our work situated still in the 19th century in the collection Feuchtwanger in Munich and was exhibited at the Berlin Art Exhibition on 2.03. 1898.
