Our portrait of a beautiful italian girl on the balcony parapet with a rose in her hand was executed in the sec.half of 19th century by important Berlin historical and portrait painter Julius Friedrich Anton Schrader (1815 Berlin - 1900 Gross-Lichterfelde by Berlin). The artist studied at the Berlin Academy (1830-1832) and later, in 1837-1844 - pupil (and 5 years as assistant) by Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow at the Duesseldorf Academy. After completing the academy, he stayed in Dusseldorf and recieved acknowledge for portraits and historical painting "Poisoning attempt on the Emperor Frederick II". From 1845 to 1847 he traveled in Italy (Rome), Holland, France, England and Belgium and in the last country fell under the influence of the colorists Gallait and Biefoe. After his return to Berlin 1848, he devoted himself mainly to the history paintings in the 1850s and was involved in the decoration of the New Museum. In 1851 he became professor at the Berlin Academy, where worked until 1892. He is member of academies in Dresden (1876), Paris and Vienna. He died on 16.january 1900 in Gross-Lichterfelde by Berlin.
