Masterfully historical scene "Drawing lesson in ancient Rome" was created in 1888 by listed genre painter of Polish origin Leon Fortunski (1859 Kassa/Kosice, Slovakia - 1895 Munich). The artist studied in 1877 - 1882 at the Viennese General Master School by Christian Griepenkerl, since 1882 - at the Art Academy in Munich by Alexander von Wagner (1891 - recognition diploma at the exhibition of the Academy), 1887-1889 und 1893 -member of Munich Artist Union. Exhibitions: 1892- Krakow, Society of Fine Arts Friends with the work "By Art Patron" (probably it is our painting); 1894 - Lemberg/Lwow, exhibition of contemporary art, where he was awarded with Silver Medal for his work " Festive procession to the church (in polish: "Do sviatuni"), 1911 - Lemberg with "Portrait of Krakowian peasant girl" (this painting was sold for 59 000 USD (50000 CHF) by Fischer Auctions/Zuerich on 16. 06.2011 (for illustration see our additional photo). In 1929 Fortunski exhibited his work "Spinnerin" (dated 1884,Munich) in Warshaw by the Society of fine arts promotion.

Technique: oil on canvas. Magnificent salon gold-plated frame.
