Antique mandarin both side fan, colur printed leaf with strong colours and decorated with Chinese figures and birds in a royal garden, back side -with flower and butterfly ornaments, upper part - hand-painted in black and gold with fugures and floral motives on lacque wood. The origins of the so-called Mandarin fan lie in early 19th century China and in the profitable export trade with Europe the Chinese so successfully conducted.
Technique: coloured print decoration, candle - hand-painted in black/gold lacquer wood.
Measurements: w 19 3/4" x h 10 1/4" (51 x 28 cm).
Condition: overall quite good condition due to the age, some splitting on the folds, on the back side - old restoration of few folders (see photos). |
