Masterfully genre scene by well renowed Berlin genre painter Julius Ehrentraut (1841 Frankfurt - 1923 Berlin). He studied likewise lithograph beside he studied however at the Berlin academy of arts, which he entered 1861, and where he finally enjoyed the instruction of professor Schruder. By bad family conditions forced, he dedicated himself again the lithography by Q. to Becker (animal and cgenre painter, b. 1830), under whose guidance he implemented some costume figures (Bauerntrachten). Since these figures found buyers, he created the own studio and began now following his model very renowed French genre painter Jean Louis Ernest Meissonier, to paint the soldiers from 17. century. Slowly he trained himself further by industrious study of the Netherlands masters. He succeeded to it fast, in sharp, characteristic view, to reach in safe design and subtle brush guidance ihis model so that he became lifetimes one of the best small painters of the famous Berlin school. 1878 he was appointed as the professor of the Berlin academy of arts. His main paintings are: * The ill fool, * Reveille, the fool in the prison, * The Swedish Parlamentär, * The strategists, * Musical maintenance (state gallery Stuttgart), * The youngest comrade.

Inscription: signed lower left, original bronze plaque with the ndates of painter on the frame , on the reverse - old labbel with news-paper article about the author. .

Technique: oil on wood. Magnificent original gold-plated frames.

Measurements:  unframed w 6 2/3 " x h 8 2/3" (17 x 22 cm), framed w 12 1/3" x h 14 1/4" (31,5 x 36 cm)

Condition: in very good condition.
