Antique cooper engraving , depicting Russain Emperor Peter III ( 1728 Kiel - 1762 Ropsha by St.Petersburg) and was executed by famous German miniature painter , drawer and cooper engraver Johannes Esaias Nilson (1721 - Augsburg - 1788). He had own Art print edition and was court painter in Augsburg. Since 1769- director of Art academy in Augsburg. His works situated in museums of Augsburg, Nuernberg, in the collections Ulmann, Vienna; Great Herzog ernst Ludwig von Hessen; in the Staedel Institute in Frankfurt, Cooper Engraving Cabinets in Stuttgart and Berlin, Art-Collections in Weimar and Albertina in Vienna.about the sitter: Peter III was born in Kiel,Schleswig-Holstein. His parents were karl Friedrich Duke of Holstein-Gottorp and Anna Petrowna, a daughter of Emperor Peter the Great of Russia and his second wife Cathrine I of Russia. Peter the III was the Emperor of Russia for 6 month in 1762. He was very pro-Prussian, which made him an unpopular leader. He was supposedly assassinated as a result of a cospiracy as a result of a Catherine II.
